12277 Howrah Puri Duronto Express, which is to become a shatabdi Express w.e.f 08.02.2013, should leave Howrah in the morning so that it can reach Puri by the afternoon. If tourists can reach Puri by the afternoon they will reach Puri at a convenient time. If the check in time of the hotels is 12 noon, the tourists will gain more from by checking in by the afternoon than by checking in at night after 10 p.m. Now the train reaches Puri at 22:10 and when they check in at around 10:30 p.m. they pay for an entire day, i.e. 24 hours but can spend only a little more than 12 hours by paying for an entire day. I think the time schedule of this train is the main reason why this train is a flop.
Can it be the only reason for this train to be flop? Was it meant only for tourists?
Puri is a very popular destination for Bengalis both for a visit to Sri Jagnnath Temple and the tourist attractions. So both devotees and tourists visit Puri time and again from Bengal. Of course the train is not meant for the tourists only. Anybody can travel in this train. But a large section of the passengers travelling in this train are tourists or devotees. Therefore the time schedule of this train is not convenient for the tourists and devotees , i.e. a large section of the passengers.
Yes. Same logic as NJP Shatabdi. Kolkata has better connectivity and people will get something even after 10.30. But not at Puri and check in time is not favourable for them.
