Many of u may be aware of GC between RTM-FTD (Ongoing), FTD-INDM (Scheduled), UJN-FTD (Proposed)... It has been frequently discussed on IRI that GC of RTM-INDM will reduce the distance to Delhi / Mumbai and all other places by at least 60 kms as plying via DWX & UJN could be avoided.
Last night, I had a dream... an ardent RF dreams about IR only... (A scene of 1.5 yrs from now) I saw that all imp. trains like Avantika, NZM intercity, INDB-GNC Shanti Exp, INDB-PUNE exp etc etc are going via FTD, bypassing UJN, DWX, NAD ... :-( Then I saw people of these places protesting... writing memorandums to political agents, railway board etc... to still ply Avantika etc Via UJN-DWX-NAD-RTM, why the hell did we dismantle an imp. stretch of a historical MG track???? All requests fall on deaf ears...
Here I and some like-minded peace-loving RFs gather and discuss the solutions.. Outcome - SLIPS!!!!! For every train that UJN/DWX/NAD lose, slips would be provided.... Eg: UJN's slips to be attached at FTD, DWX's at INDB, NAD at RTM...
What say, people??

I see what you mean,but I don't think these trains will be re-routed as they already have developed enough patronage from people of UJN,DWX etc. that IR wont think about that.I can name bunch of trains announced in RB of recent years which take hundred of kilometres of detour instead of shortest route.But ya railways may start new trains from INDB to mumbai,delhi,ahmedabad etc. via FTD-RTM in coming years.
But still all north bound trains should still ply via UJN because going via RTM will actually increase distance than the other way around.Trains like Ajmer hyderabad are however bound to get re-routed because they used to take that route in MG days.

I also think all pre-GC trains will be restarted (like minakshi express!!remember).In many ways in long run I think GC will be good for the whole region as it will bring better rail connectivity,especially for ujjain as FTD can be developed as new rail head for the city as its hardly 20 km by road.Station can be renamed as UJJAIN ROAD- FATEHABAD or just UJJAIN LINK JN!!

I highly doubt the rerouting of existing trains on this route, especially Avantika. New trains may, however be introduced via FTD.
