Can I board the train from any station on the way? I stay in Shomoga and I have reserved 6 tickets from Udupi to Thane. To board the train I would have to go to Udupi, but it seems like it either Honnavar or Kumta would be easier to reach and board the train. Also it would save my 2 hours.

Get your boarding station changed from Udipi to Honnavar or Kumta.
Here is the procedure. Go to any railway reservation counter with your ticket, copy of photo id proof and a request letter to change the boarding station. It should be done 24 hrs before the departure of train from original boarding station.
Valid photo id are:
(i)Voter Identity Card(ii) Passport...

(v) Photo ID cards issued by Central / State Govt which are having serial number (vi)Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School or College for their students (vii)Nationalized Bank Passbook with photograph (viii)Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photograph
(ix) Unique Identification Card "Aadhaar"
