Surprise Catch of the Day for me.
As I stepped onto the platform in order to take a local tilll Barrackpore, to my surprise, Legendary Upper India Express was entering BNXR for a scheduled(unscheduled) halt just at the outer. Hauled by 16638(R) BWN WDM-3A, the train was almost running empty. Within 16 minutes post this, the BWN Deemer speedily passed by us again, this time going towards DDJ.

well, the train is more than a century old. was the first train to connect kolkata to delhi. then allahabad bridge was not built and the coaches were ferried across the river via huge boats and then again the journey continue. it covered the whole of upper india and was the only train to do so. later grand chord section was built and kalka mail ran from hwh to dli...gradually, stoppages increased and sbg loop lost importance due to grand chord route...so much so that upper india has almost 100 stoppages and an avg speed of less than 40kmph...but still a lifeline for sbg loop passengers...my one of the favourite trains <3 <3 <3
