One incident i want to share from previous night journey.
Last night my train reached a station called tilati. It passed the station at a modest speed of nearly 30 kmph. After crossing nearly 200-300m,it came to a screeching halt. As the time was nearly 2300hr,every1 was surprised by the halt. Outside it was all dark and hideous.
Then suddenly train start going in reverse direction at a speed of nearly 40kmph...!!!:-O:-O...

scared hell out of us. Then it changes its lines and came back to tilati. And as it stopped, just after 1-2 min,a goods train crossed on the same line on which previously we were.
I was thanking the pilot and the tilati station controllers for making the train reverse back in time or otherwise consequences could have been drastic.

Isn't this a foolishness by IR. Instead reversing the exp, they could have halted the exp on main line and make the goods train to slow down and go to the loop line.

But I think the loop line may not have connection back to main line and so they are practicing this...

the loop line has then no connection back to mainline...then the goods train even has to reversed and then they have to bring it back on main line...

One thing that I have always pondered over in scissor crossings is why Loop lines are not being constructed from both ends.... Its more logical to have a loop line crossing than a scissor crossing....

the difficulty comes when there is no adequate space for a loop line ...many times there are mountains or valleys nearsuch loop lines and hence becomes quite dangerous to construct a normal loop line...........IMO only under extreme circumstances is that such lines are constructed.
.
Another reason maybe that they were constructed for a research work and as a working model.............but sadly i havent seen any exceptional R&D work by IR except the LWR.........all high tech items in IR are tendered or obtained from abroad or developed by organisations like BHEL, BEML,
