RFIR~ 6977 blog postsThe railways it appears is desperately short of coaches. Chair car coaches for an overnite journey....probably first time hearing the same being attached in the kcvl-tvc route. Only 4 sleeper class coaches and 6 chair car which is a surprise

Looks like they are using the rake of 06336/35 KCVL - DBRT Special to operate this service. Wish they used the lie over rake of 16331/32 TVC CSTM Express(which they sent to MAS) instead!
I think a 2S can carry at least 30 more passengers than sleeper. Moreover I think nowadays with a high majority of tickets being booked online, if the passenger ends up in waitlist, railways invariable have to refund the amount as compared to paper tickets holders. Thus maybe a 2S may give them an opportunity to allott and cnfrm more seats and since passengers are used to travel in sitting in overnite buses, they might be assuming that there would be lots of takers for this .
If that is how Railways think, i think they are horribly gone wrong, looking at the demand for reserved 2nd class sitting class.
No sir. The weekly TPTY-PDY express (regular one and not spl) performs ONT journey in one trip. The train is fully unreserved. Simillarly Cholan exp , lifeline for Kaveri Delta people is a fully day train (iT is still called as Day express locally) has fully SL coaches. IR just follows USA timings
