I tied to book 2A seats on 6345 for my family (2 Sr. Ctzn., 1 Female Sr. Ctzn., 2 Females aged 59 & 56).
Despite booking on the first day @ 8.15 am, I was unable to get a single lower berth for any of the passengers - also the availability showed only 15-16 seats for 2A.
IRCTC staff was very rude and said that these berths are reserved for ladies and handicapped. If it is one compartment for 2A, why could I not get even one lower / side-lower berth for...

Very true. Especially in 2A, Lower berths are difficult to get. Lower berths are put under diff quotas. So general quota will have very less.
And I guess railways by default gives lower berths, meaning in case you dont give any choice it gives lower berth.
I generally wait till RAC 1 comes and book it to get LOWER berth.

Thank you for the reply, however, IRCTC has options for berth preferences, I had clearly marked lower berths, atleast for 2 Sr. Citizens aged 65 & 70, still this happened.
I would not want to risk waiting until RAC, when I have aged persons travelling.
