ssnrao 62 blog postsYesterday, I had travelled in Garib Rath from Secunderabad to Visakhapatnam with RAC 1 as status, I could not get proper confirmation of berth until 1230 am after boarding train at 815 pm and incidentally, I do not know, how 3 persons were allotted same RAC 1 for the same berth in the same coach., how the railways can think that 3 persons can travel on 1 berth? If passengers of berth 2 and 3 wish to sleep, it is difficult to understand how 3 persons can seat in that limited space and height and travel the whole night. I think railways also benefit that 3 persons pay full fare to travel on 1 berth the whole night?? HOpe something can be done on this.

You are still not getting the point. RAC is done with multiple things in mind. More people get to travel.
RAC are more likely to get cleared enroute.

Railways is NOT getting 3 ticket fares against 1 berth. MB is kept vacant. So it is just 1 additional passenger.

Hi Good Morning all
I could not see allotment of berth 2 (MB) to anyone, neither was there any direction from TTE to occupy the berths. He said he will tell the status only 1230 am, which 3 1/2 hours of start of train . However, subsequently, 2 of us occupied 1,2 berth, 3rd was asked to go elsewhere.

What I ultimately wish to tell is 3 persons being allotted 1 berth is ok in a way as RAC, however if the chart is not released till the last moment, you really don't know your case of wait listing, had it been done say 6 hours in advance, you have option of trying other trains which depart before Garib Rath by trying your luck in current reservation category available at the station. With this being the last train to depart to vizag for the day, you have very few options left, but to travel in RAC.
Thats what is such cases MB will not be alloted so that 3 Persons could be adjusted with 2 berths and on-board depending on last minute absentees the other passenger will also be accommodated else where as happened in your case.
