Alight here for the famous Sabarimala Ayyappa Shrine in the Periyar Tiger Reserve (Peak season is mid-November to mid-January when it is open for the entire two months at a stretch). The forest hill shrine is usually open only for the first week of every Malayalam month and other special days like Onam etc. The pilgrimage requires a 48-day vrata and an arduous mountainous trek. Advised only for those in sound health.
