I booked a tatkal ticket using IRCTC site today (11th November 2013).While i booked ticket i have my name "Thangamnai" instead of "Thangamani"
I spoke to customer care ( 011-39340000 ) regarding this they told the ticket is invalid. You have to book the ticket once again. Now all the tickets are went waiting list status.

Generally what matters most is ID ID Detail Gender.
Short name or missing letter in name happens due to systems inability to accept full name or time pressure on booking person.
No need to worry go ahead explain to TTE and stood firmly if he/she objects because this is nothing more than a typo.
