Don know. But feeling very excited about new rail lines. If a railway line is made between tlgp and honnavara, there ll be a direct, shorter , quicker connectivity from coastal districts of karnataka with capital bangalore, and places like ask, hassan, mys, cmnr. The reason I feel this ll be helpful is cos of the following reasons.
1. Coastal karnataka is connected to bangalore by two trains, one is the day train which takes 16.5 hours plus a day travel. Travels 639 kms. Another is the night express, but leaves karwar at 2.30 pm , almost killing half a day's schedule, travelling 704 kms for 17.5 hours and reaching sbc.
2.

If tlgp honnavara track is made, roughly 100 kms, though a techically tough one, think of it.
Kawr hna tlgp smet sbc
68 100 96 275
Total of 539 kms, saving 100 or 150 kms every trip. More important is the journey.
Currently sbc tlgp exp takes 8 hours, even if 5 hours are taken for 100 kms of ghat plus 68 kms of konkan railway, it d take maximum 13 hours. Cutting down the journey time. Unlike 17 18 hours of day travel.
3. Further goa , madgaon would be closer than by the ask dvg route by 140 kms, currently 639 , would come down to 501.
4. Stations further north west like vasai road also will be nearer, and an alternate third route from sbc to adi , decreasing the journey time compared to the busy sbc ubl miraj route, or sbc gtl dd route. Kindly give ur feedback.

Just to add to my lengthy post. There was a proposal for a rail line from k r nagar to coorg via hunsur. Again its a very costly investment plus passes thru dense forest and thru nagarahole reserve which again opens the pandora s box. Plus hunsur wood is world famous. And most important is the population density of coorg. Very very less. And it ll become a dead end point until connected to majn , which s probably I feel a though too unrealistic to even dream of.
