Mail trains were started by the British. In those times these Mail trains were the only trains that connected the important cities by using the trunk routes. As there were no time clashes due to non-availability of trains, these Mail trains ran at the most convenient timings which ensured the British officers get good night sleep, that's why the Mail trains run at the excellent time slots even now.
