Two questions
1. Can a passenger get down at any intermediate station of a train route if he has booked till the terminating station?
2. If one can get down at an intermediate station can he/she board a local train to travel further and get down before the terminating station of the train as he/she already has express reservation ticket?

is to bring in your attention that myself Debojyoti Maity was scheduled to travel From Tamluk (TMZ) to Chennai (MAS) on 05.01.2013. My ticket was booked through IRCTC site and PNR no. was 6113541931. But on the scheduled day of Journey I reached the boarding station (TMZ) and just before 10 minutes of departure it was announced that no AC compartment will be available for that day on train no. 22614 due to some technical reasons; instead they will provide the accommodation in normal sleeper class and the seating position will be adjusted on the way by the respective TTE. This created a messy situation among the AC passengers. So many passengers who didn't want to travel in this circumstances got their ticket cancelled from the boarding station itself and got the full refund immediately as this was a fault from Indian railway. But as my ticket was booked from IRCTC I was unable to cancel it from the station. Then and there, on the same day, I filed one TDR against this to avail the refund from IRCTC which contains the Reference No:ekt2013015006649780. But still now I didn't get the refund and I am still in complete darkness about its processing. Already it's been more than one week.
So I request you to look into this matter seriously and inform me asap.

to me
Dear Customer,
As per the policy framed by Railway Board, refund is processed by the Zonal Railway under whose jurisdiction station of the train falls. IRCTC only provides access to Railway Passenger Reservation System through its server and internet connectivity to book the ticket through it. Railway and IRCTC are different entities. TDR filed by the customers are directly dealt by the concerened Railway for decision. IRCTC has no role in deciding the refund. On receipt of refund amount from the Railways, it is credited to the account of the customer through same payment gateway which was used while making booking.
You can check the status of your TDR claim online at IRCTC website using your login account.

But in my case its about Rs.1219 and I filed the TDR within one hour of the departure from the boarding station. So, in this case their 'Ruling' can't be accepted at any cost!

@Anand Nambyar Exactly... I accede to you.. I was also thinking about this.. What does take so long for the Railway to reimburse the TDR amount? I just posted the matter here to know what the experts says before doing anything with help of jurisdiction!

I have one e-ticket from KGP to MAS on 12.09.12 in 3AC with confirm status. But due to some urgent reasons I'll be in kolkata that day. So I want to board the train at HWH. How is it legally possible to get the ticket modified by any means to board from HWH instead of KGP? Experts plz help.

And if I dnt buy any extra ticket for going to KGP from HWH and ask the TTE to adjust the rest amount by directly paying him in return of challan--- will it be valid? Or I'll find me being considered as a ticketless traveler from HWH to KGP?

And one thing.. when I'm searching for availability in 3ac that day from HWH to KGP I'm getting no seat empty. Then won't my berth remain vacant from HWH to KGP?

FOLLOWING IS A MAIL I SENT TO INDIAN RAILWAY AUTHORITY. PLZ HAVE A LOOK AT THIS AND POST YOUR OPINION...
Sir/ Madam,
After the promulgation of the circular of 'Travelling with electronic tickets in elctronic media like Laptop/Ipad' and recently of 'Travelling with SMS received from IRCTC after ticket booking' (of course with a valid ID card) I always used to travel by these means. As a member of common-mass and railway traveler and as a techno-freak I embraced these rules as most welcome.
But
...
several times I ended up with a lot of post-journey problems. For your kind perusal here it is:-
However, I never faced any problem on-board the train while carrying tickets in electronic media. The TTE verified the soft-copy of those tickets and my ID proof against the reservation-chart he had and this was a smooth procedure. I often travel from Kolkata-Delhi-Chennai-Bangalore mostly by Rajdhani and Shatabdi express and often I need to slip from this when I need to travel between some places in some other trains where Rajdhanis or Shatabdis are not available.
The problem now crops up. Soon after the arrival in destination and getting down from the train I head towards that particular station-exit as all other passengers do and very often I was perturbed by the platform TTEs standing at the exit-gate. This time it becomes very difficult to switch on my laptop while carrying heavy luggage with me, alone. As the TTE says here ID card doesn't suffice to meet his requirement of verification as he has no chart in his hand. So it is mandatory to show him my ticket. Now, after this bit of interrogation the process gets more crappy. For me, booting up my laptop for showing the ticket contributes in formation of a long queue of passengers in a busy station in rush hours and evidently I am abused by the passengers in hurry standing behind me. But it's palpable that regarding this issue I have nothing to do.
From right to information, I, hereby, want to know what is the exact rules ad regulations by Indian Railway pertinent this matter.
Please clarify me asap. Otherwise the electronic-ticket-carry system goes to be a real 'hoax' and a huge trouble for travelers like me who also suffered from this problem.
Looking forward to hearing from you sooner.
Thank you.

Regards,
DEBOJYOTI MAITY.

My prblem lies elsewhere.. Booking tickes nearly 120 days before the day of journy I could hardly trace the sms often. And that happened before the sms rules was brought to action. What will happen if anyone doesn't have sms but a pdf of the ERS?

ok.. for you take 90 days.. I'm not going with that debate of booking..Simply I didn't have the sms or sms was not valid then.. But had the pdf in my laptop.. So in that rush hour, should I open my laptop or be kept stalled by the TTE?

Thnx to all who participated in this and helped me a lot. To end I'd like to mention a few points. here they go.
1. @ The person as 'Guest' who answered the longest:- All your opinions have a legitimate points. Not going with comparison to air travel, at least to me, carrying a printed ticket or hard-copy is the 'most chosen' and 'most easy' to do still now. But u should note railway is not offering the electronic mode as convenience for passengers (May be it's implication may taken otherwise if that suits one). So avoiding any such decisive complexity, in general, it's often difficult to carry a gadget like laptop/iPad/smart phone than to carry a printed ticket. It's a
...
REQUEST and CAMPAIGN from railway to save PAPERS and trees as well as the environment. So airport authority is still now not offering that facility doesn't mean that they are not offering more conveniences or options. Here I do disagree. But they should do it too like railway as a 'save-trees' initiative considering all other parameters in near future, if possible. @Ruchir in this point I am consensus with you.
2. I'm not refusing to show any type of proof. Yes, railway has arranged multi-optional digital-ticket-proof-facility to its valued passengers. If I fancy to take any one of them or two as so called 'my convenience(s)' then at that very moment I had only 'Laptop mode' available with me what made me into that trouble. Everybody would admit that showing ticket in a laptop in exit point is cumbersome while carrying heavy, multiple luggage alone. Here I lacked the other options, that's my fault, I agree. @Ruchir you pointed my plea right.
3. Nevertheless, at any point in my 'mail' I hardly raised any reason for sms to be invalid. Anyway, I mentioned it clearly either sms was not available with me or sms facility didn't came into action till then; I couldn't exactly remember.
4. By all your valuable comments and opinion, I ended up with an inference that I should carry other 'easier' options of carrying electronic ticket in future so that I can avert this situation. TTE is doing his duty, no offence in that. But 'only' the option I had chosen created that mess.
