More than the operational constraints it is powerful bus lobby may be one of the reasons for not running more trains including trains announced in the Budget. As i understand as per the agreement with HMRDC LTD 3 pairs of passenger trains can be run. However only 2 pairs are running now, that too one express train in the day time runs tri-weekly.
More than 500 buses are running per day, but Rlys want requests for running train!. In pure business sense, never miss an opportunity to make money. This is golden time -- next 6 months, buses would not be preferred, or rather disliked, since they have to go through a de-tour. Atleast 2 night trains can be run -- one from Kundapura via Udupi and MAJN byepass (to avoid LR at MAJN) and one from MAQ to Bengaluru. One can be via ASK and other one via MYS.
