Mumbai Suburban carries 75-80 lac paxs per day which is about one third of the total 2.4 crore paxs carried by IR. Even small suburban stations in Mumbai have more footfalls than stations of big cites with 10lacs+ population. The revenue at these stations is not correspondingly high because of low value non ac general tickets sold for short distance travel and lower monthly tickets fare. So in spite of having much higher traffic/footfalls than most of A1 category stations, these stations are not A1 category are often neglected. Funds have to be allotted on priority for augmentation/widening of the foot over bridges & circulating area of such stations. Else very soon, stampedes and consequential injuries/deaths may become order of the day.
