SCR Makes More Number of Reserved Berths/ Seats Available
in Regular Trains to Meet Passenger Demand

more... composition of 16 regular express / passenger trains by permanently attaching 63 coaches (31- Sleeper class, 19- AC III tier, 9- AC II tier and 4 - General Second class coaches) which generated 3862 additional berths for reserved passengers and 360 additional general seats.
In addition to permanent augmentation, 9769 additional coaches were also attached last year generating huge number of additional berths. This benefitted 5.57 lakhs of waitlisted passengers and yielded a revenue of Rs. 21crs. during FY- 2012-13.
Taking this process forward, SCR is constantly watching the profile of passenger demand and rationalizing the composition of various trains for optimal utilisation of the coaches. Efforts are on to increase the composition of popular/busy express trains to the maximum limit of 24 coaches in a gradual manner.
During the first 2 months of the current financial year viz., April and May -2013, SCR has already augmented 8 express trains permanently with 30 additional coaches of various classes, compared to 63 coaches added during the whole of the previous year. These 30 additional coaches viz., 12-AC III tier; 10 General Second class; 7- Sleeper class and 1-AC two tier coach made available 2218 extra berths/ seats on a permanent basis to the passengers, catering to the summer rush in the last 2 months The trains where additional coaches were attached on permanent basis during April and May -2013 include:
i. One AC III tier and One AC II tier to Secunderabad - Mumbai LTT - Secunderabad Duronto Exp
ii. Six General second class coaches to Nanded - Mumbai CST-Nanded / Dharmabad-Nanded- Dharmabad Tapovan /Marthwada Express
iii. Two sleeper class and Two AC III tier to Hyderabad -Ajmer-Hyderabad Express
iv. Four AC III tier coaches to Secunderabad - Patna -Secunderabad Express
v. Four AC III tier coaches to Secunderabad- Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Garibrath Express
vi. Two sleeper class coaches to Tirupati - Machilipatnam -Tirupati Express
vii. Three sleeper class coaches to Secunderabad - Darbhanga - Secunderabad Bi-weekly express
viii. Four General second class and One AC III tier coaches to Secunderabad - Sainagar Shirdi- Secunderabad Express.
Apart from the permanent augmentation as above, senior officials have been closely monitoring the waiting list position of various reserved classes on trains where passenger traffic demand is high. Special efforts are being taken to attach extra coaches on day to day basis to the extent feasible. The output of coach maintenance units is also being closely monitored so as to get the maximum possible spare coaches for Service. SCR has attached 1034 extra coaches in various classes in the last 2 months (April and May -2013) clearing 67000 wait listed passengers with an earnings of Rs. 2.8 crs.
SCR continues to take steps to enhance the availability of berths/seats in regular trains through permanent augmentation and day to day attachment of extra coaches so as to provide rail travel facility to as many passengers as possible
