This led to the derailment of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail as its coaches collided with the derailed freight train wagons while traveling on the up line. Experts suggest that the accident could have been prevented if the derailment of the freight train had been reported at Rajkharsawan and Barabambo stations. A delay in stopping the train, traveling at a speed of 110 km/h, would have prevented the incident and saved the lives of two passengers. Inspections by different departments have revealed that the freight train wagons had been dragging for about half a kilometer before they derailed. The railway supervisor from Chakradharpur is conducting an internal investigation into the causes of the accident.
