Visakhapatnam: Many parts of the district received heavy rain on Monday under the influence of a low pressure that formed over Bay of Bengal on Sunday.
Train services on the Kottavalasa-Kirandul (KK) railway line were also interrupted as boulders fell on the track due to rains in Visakha Agency. Officials from the Waltair division of the East Coast Railway rushed to the spot and restored the services. Train services on this sector were disrupted for nearly two hours.
"Boulders falling on the KK line is a common event for us during the monsoon.
We always keep the requisite emergency equipment ready so that the situation is brought under control at the earliest and train services are restored," said a senior railway official.
Meanwhile, weathermen at the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam, said the city received 14 mm of rainfall and the airport received 16.4 mm of rainfall from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. They further said the low pressure area lying over west central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast and north coastal Andhra Pradesh did not turn into a well-marked low pressure till Monday. Many parts of coastal AP will receive moderate to heavy rains on Tuesday, the CWC officials said.

The pipeline project will decongest the Kothavalasa-Kirandul railway line. It will also prevent disruptions due to landslides and Maoist attacks. At present, the KK line is the lifeline for getting iron ore to VSP from Chhattisgarh.
Transportation through the pipeline will cost Rs.450 per tonne as against Rs.900 by rail route. The evacuation option will also be more dependable and environment-friendly.
NMDC, India’s leading iron ore miner, is also establishing a Greenfield steel plant at Nagarnar near Jagdalpur.
pipeline will also help it in getting ore.

Work on the first phase of 95 km long track from Dallirajhara to Rowghat is in progress, while for the construction of 140 km long second phase from Rowghat to Jagdalpur, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Chhattisgarh government and IRCON International Limited which is a company of Union Railway Ministry. The MoU was inked in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Dantewada visit on May 9 this year.
The second phase of the project will cost about Rs 2,000 crore. For this project the Chhattisgarh government and Central government have formed a joint venture (JV) in which NMDC, SAIL and IRCON are also party.
