While at Kyatasandra, try to have breakfast at Pavitra Idly Hotel, which is famous for its Thatte Idly. Thatte Idly is a bigger version of the normal Idly. Thatte means Plate in Kannada. The hotel is located just around half a KM from the station. Just walk towards the Tumakuru-Bengaluru Highway and upon reaching, just take left and you will find this hotel with a lot cars parked around. People stop here to have some tiffin before continuing their journey.
The idly is fluffy and soft. You can ask for Butter too. A dollop of butter and an idly with unlimited sambhar and chutney costs 25 rs. You can buy Vade too, which with butter costs same. Then there is the crispy
Mini Butter Masala Dose with potato filling in the middle, which costs 35 rs. As seen in pics Sambhar and Chutney are kept in separate mugs on the table, so you yourself can refill your cups as much as you want. The hotel is open from morning till late evening serving the highway customers.
While travelling in Karnataka by train don't miss out on having the Maddur Vade. This must be the only food item invented for rail travellers. The snack is named after Maddur MAD. You can read the story of its invention here: click here and click here
This fritter type snack made of flour and spices is really lip smacking with its caramelised onions. One piece costs 10 rs. And one is enough to shut down hunger pangs for quite some time. The SBC-UBL route and SBC-MYS route are the routes where mostly you will find this snack.
