Like any other town in Delta region, Tiruvidaimarudhur located on the Kumbakonam-Mayiladuthurai Highway is famous for its old temple dating to Chola times dedicated to Lord Shiva. However in this temple, you are not supossed to exit the inner praharam from the entry side thanks to the Brahmahatti that waits there
According to legend, A Chola King was cursed to be affected by the Brahmahatti dosha (A sin of killing a person) on a fateful day. As he enters into the temple for his daily rituals, the Bramhahatti waits outside trying to the capture him. The king pleads with it to allow him to perform his Puja and catch him when he returns. the Brahmahatti agrees to wait. the king after

performing his pooja exits from another exit and leaves the village never to turn back as the Brahmahatti awaits his exit from the temple.
The Brahmahatti idol can be found sittign with its hand on the chin on the left hand corner close to the entrance as one enters the temple. Beware not to exit. Needless to say, this temple is also famous for architecture like any other temple of the Chola period
