in 16th century. Harmandir Sahib literally means Abode of God. Gurudwara has a pool known as Amritsar meaning "Pool of Nectar to Immorality" made by 4th Guru, Guru Ram Das. In early 19th Century, Maharaja Ranjit Singh covered the upper floors of Gurudwara with Gold. Since then became famous as "Golden Temple". Since this train goes to Amritsar, it was named as Golden Temple Mail. This was initially Frontier Mail between Bombay and Peshawar.
