I wish this train stayed in Tambaram forever instead of moving to Central. It was kinda surprising to see a train to Delhi running from Tambaram, the Gateway of Chennai. I get the historical importance of the train, but extending it has really helped passengers from South Tamilnadu. They can now switch trains at Tambaram instead of coming all the way to Central. Southern Railways is not keen on starting a new daily train to Delhi from Madurai/Trichy side, probably because there are already many families from those areas living in Delhi. Share your thoughts on this.

Mujhe toh yeh train Tambaram mein hi rehne ko dikh rha hai permanent taur pe Central ke bajaye. Mujhe laga ki pehli baar ek Delhi ke liye dedicate ki gayi train ko Tambaram ko diya gaya, jo Chennai ki Gateway bhi kehlata hai. Haan main is train ke virasat se sehmat hoon, Par badhaani ke baad yeh Tamilnadu ke Southern parts se aane wale yatriyon ko fayda pahucha gaya, woh asaani se Tambaram mein train badal sakte hain Central aane ki bajaye. Aur SR ko ek nayi Daily train Delhi se Madurai/Trichy taraf shuru karne mein acchi karne ki koi jyaada ruchi nahi hai kyun ki Delhi mein un ilakon se kai parivaron ke log rhte hain...

This train, called 12616 Grand Trunk Express, runs between New Delhi and Chennai. It has a generator car and a locomotive. There is also a picture of them.

The Grand Trunk Express is like, the main vein for loads of tiny towns on the GT Route. It's like the fast track connection to Delhi and Chennai for a bunch of those little stops along the way. Yeah, maybe it's a bit slower than the fancy Tamil Nadu Express, but GT holds its own against TN despite having more stops. It's only 2 hours longer than TN Express between Chennai and New Delhi, but with 24 extra stops. For a train buff like me who grew up in a small town in MP, this train is like everything. I can remember so many trips on this train from my town to Delhi and Bhopal. When I was a kid, I used to get super emotional seeing this train coming in at 5 pm in the evening. Honestly, no other train can top GT for me. If I had to pick between Chennai and New Delhi, I'd totally go with GT.

Grand Trunk Express sahi me bahut important hai for all the chhote chhote towns jo GT Route par hai. Ye train provide karta hai fast connection to Delhi and Chennai se kai chhote stations tak. Koi shak nahi hai ki ye thoda slow hai as compared to Tamil Nadu Express but GT me kamm bhi nahi hai TN se Even with zyada stoppages, GT sirf 2 ghante slow hai TN Express se between Chennai and New Delhi, lekin 24 extra stoppages ke saath. Ek railfan jo hamesha se small town se hai MP me, ye train mere liye sab kuch hai. Main is train me kayi safar yaad kar sakta hu apne town se Delhi aur Bhopal ke liye. Bachpan me mujhe ye train dekh kar rona aata tha jab ye shaam ko 5 baje aati thi. Mere liye koi train isse badi nahi hai. Agar mujhe Chennai aur New Delhi ke beech select karne ka mauka mile, to main pakka GT ko prefer karunga.
