Intercity Express (15719 & 15720), New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express (12042 & 12041), and Siliguri-Jogbani Intercity Express (15724), were cancelled. The New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express (12523) was rescheduled to depart at 12:00 hrs. The New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (20504), Silchar-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express (13176), and New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express (12523) were diverted. The West Bengal government criticized the Central Government for its alleged negligence toward railway safety.

The collision caused two rear compartments of the Kanchanjunga Express to derail, resulting in damage to four coaches. Prime Minister Modi announced ex-gratia payments for the deceased and injured. Railway services resumed on the downline near New Jalpaiguri on Tuesday, June 18th, with the Avadh Assam Express being the first train to pass the accident site at 10:42 AM. The undamaged coaches of the Kanchanjunga Express reached Sealdah station on Tuesday morning with nearly 850 passengers. The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northeast Frontier Railway, will conduct a statutory inquiry on June 19th.

The four trains canceled are the Katihar-Siliguri and Jogbani-Siliguri Intercity Expresses, along with the New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express. Additionally, the route of the New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express has been adjusted. The Capital Express continues to operate on the Siliguri-New Jalpaiguri route. The Kanchanjungha Express accident occurred on Monday morning when a container-laden freight train collided with the train from behind near Rangapani station, approximately 30 kilometers from New Jalpaiguri station. The accident, resulting in the death of about a dozen passengers and injuries to many others, is suspected to have been caused by signal failure. The exact cause, however, will be determined after an investigation.

Delhi-Darbhanga Bihar Sampark Kranti (12566) train experienced the longest delay, arriving 17.46 hours late. The delays have caused inconvenience for passengers, who have had to endure cold weather and crowded conditions. The New Delhi-Darbhanga Clone Express (02570), New Delhi-Barauni (02564), Barauni-New Delhi Clone Special Express (02563), Darbhanga-New Delhi Clone Special Express (02569), New Delhi-Saharsa Vaishali Superfast Express (12554), and New Delhi-Jaynagar Swatantrata Senani Superfast Express (12562) also faced delays of more than 10 hours.
