I have one small doubt. Always wanted to know this. But when i enter IRI, i forget it.
When i travel from SP Kovil to Chennai Park in EMU, as soon as train reaches outer of Tamabaram, fans gets switched off, and only few lights will be working for short interval of time and also vice versa. I have noticed the same in some place in between Tambaram and Chennai park stretch. Can anyone tell me why this happening? Is this related to overhead cable?

Its nothing before u sir , u have enlightened so many about the history of trains in our nation :)
Thanks for giving this info. I always wondered, why this is happening. Now got clear idea.
In normal express train, power for coaches are generated from battery in each coach, that is why there is no difference. While for EMU, power is from over head cable, that is why we are noticing it. AM i right?
Has travelled by MEMU only once in that sector and hence didn't notice. Like you said, it goes totally unnoticed in Mail/Express, unless we pick up the warning signs on electric poles.
