OK. This is not good for railways and it should try something as soon as possible. My friend and his family were planning to travel to Bangalore and asked my advice about trains. I advised them about Rajdhani and Duronto Express from Delhi but the fare of flights are less compared to 3AC of Rajdhani and Duronto. So, they decided to fly rather than spend long hours in trains. In short, this is not just a single case and they should prevent passengers from shifting to flights.

I am trying to highlight the fact that railways only profitable section 3A which gives them profit. If you are introducing surge in it then they will look for alternatives and airlines will make merry.
The crowd that railways has is of general class, SL class and suburban traffic which are heavily discounted where there is only investment with least returns.

Bhai if RB is following your 'Point B -continue surge so that even if rajdhani is 65% capacity then also it get same revenue as non surge rajdhani...'
Then they might face serious issues ahead, they might loose their loyal middle class 3ac Rajdhani and CC Shatabdi passengers to airline and volvo/merc operators. Now in some sectors a normal 3ac SF and 3ac Rajdhani fare difference is almost double, which is not a good sign..

Jaante ho, Air travel ek nasha hai or jo ise ek baar chakh leta hai wo dubara train journeys ki taraf nahi jata. use ye pata chal jaata hai ki Railway use kitna loot raha tha or wo loota raha tha+ uska kitna time bach raha hai. full fledged implementation of UDAN scheme k baad to Railway ko aur tagda jhatka lagega or yehi haal raha to 10-15 saal me Railway kewal unreserved or Sub-urban passengers ko hi dhoyega or Sarkaar k Bailout packages pe jiyega.

There is a lot of crony capitalism in aviation. All these big airports gets crores of subsidies and tax breaks, though they are perfectly capable of making profit with no tax breaks.
In smaller airports the land acquired from farmers at a nominal rate is sold cheaply to cronies who build airports and used excess land for commercial venture. That airport due to less demand remains almost defunct. Again govt. gives subsidies and a lot of tax breaks to bail them out. This surge pricing too is push towards aviation.

agree once one gets the taste for flying the option of train travel looks abhorring. But govt. takes us tax payers for a ride in promoting aviation.
