THE GREAT IRCTC PANTRY CAR RACKET
Was travelling with my wife by this train which departed from MAS on 7th February. The next day I ordered an EGG MEAL THALI which was served by the PC staff a little before we reached VSKP. I had earlier seen the rate list displayed on a board in the pantry car which indicated that the rates were Rs.50 for a veg meal and Rs. 55 for a non-veg meal. After we had consumed the meal, at about 3 pm, the staff asked me to pay Rs. 160 for the meal. I was well aware of this kind of extortion in this and several other long-distance trains. But their has to be a way by which non-internet using class of this vast Railway system can know their entitlements regrading catering services. Just Posting rate chart on Social media sites isn't enough, mass awareness drive should be started by Railway authorities to check this loot. As Railfans we people should also contribute in that by informing as many people as we can during our journey in train about the genuine price of the food items & what they should do if any PC vendor overcharges him/her.
