Oldest train between Mangalore and MAS is the 12601/02 Mangalore mail. It was started in 1862 ( probably May 12th, 1862) between Beypore and Royapuram. There used to be a train that started from MAS in the morning like West Coast does today, but the day train used to stop at Podanur junction for the whole night and ran combined with the mail in the morning. The day time train was discontinued/run in separate portions for a while in between, but the mail was always running with one name or the other.
