The tickets can have barcodes which can easily be scanned by the handheld scanner. For SMS based tickets the PNR or the Transaction ID could be entered in the device. The device could ideally be connected to the main reservation server or can be later docked to upload the data manually.<br />Obviously there are lots of advantages in this system which could minimize corruption in manual seat allotment by the TTEs and fast checking of tickets.<br />I think this should be tried as a pilot project in some prestigious trains like the Raj/Dur/Shtb trains.
