The Kolkata-Kerala sector seems to be a very neglected section. There are only 3 trains Shalimar-Trivandrum, Shalimar-Nagercoil and Santragachi-Mangalore originating from bengal and bound for kerala. While lots of trains to bangalore,chennai,tiruchirapalli have been started from howrah/shalimar in recent times, it is ironic that a train like Shalimar-Trivandrum (previously Howrah-Trivandrum) which is one of the oldest trains in this route is yet to increase services to daily. It appears that neither authorities,public representatives in bengal or kerala are interested in taking the initiative and putting pressure on railways to improve services in this sector.
