Thank you for the information. I am aware that such a pass can be baught from window (and not IRCTC website). I used to buy it earlier - when IRCTC was not there.
Then I used to take this pass to a reservation window and request a reservation for a particular travel day. Clerk would then ask me to pay reservation charges (I think Rs. 15 to 25) and give me a confirmed reservation. Then I could board that train with that day's reservation.
