EMD's i doubt in Pamban because they have high tractive effort , it may be a hindrance to the bridge

Pamban Two Cantilever Bridge may be redesigned to swing horizontally.One Leaf swing in the northern side in the horizontal plane and the other one swing in the southern side instead of the present upward swing.By these Horizontal swing bridge navigational opening area no height restriction to the entire width of the bridge.
Otherwise these two leafs shall be designed to lift and rolled along the track .One leaf along the Pamban station ( main land ) side and the other one along the Rameswaram side ( island side )

then pillars should be redesigned for that , it ll take lots of time , because the circular disc should be mounted beneath the girder to rotate.
