PROPOSAL OF A RAILWAY LINE TO CONNECT MYSURU WITH KERALA BYPASSING WILD LIFE SANCTUARIES :: Originally Posted by :- Cyriac Philip @ FB

between Kozhikode and Thalassery on the Kanyakumari-Mangalore double line via Hullahalli-Saragur-N.Begur-Gandathur-Gundara-Machur-DoddaByranakuppe-Bavali-Shanamangalam-Palvelicham-Payyampalli-Valliyurkavu-MANANTHAVADY-Kunjome-Vilangad-Kuttiyadi-Nadapuram-Villiappilly.
Alternatively ,from Kuttiyadi this line could be conceived to go to Kozhikode via Perambra or to Thalassery or from Mananthavady to Kannur via Ambayathode-Kottiyur-Mattannur(upcoming Kannur airport).
This could be conceived through a stretch between the boundaries of Bandipur and Nagarhole WL Sanctuaries. This line connects Mysore,Bangalore,Arasikere,Davangere,Belgaum, and Hyderabad to Kozhikode,Kochi,Thalassery,Kannur and Mangalore through a shorter and environment friendly route. It reduces the distance between Bengaluru and Kochi by more than150 KMs,between Thiruvananthapuram and New Delhi by more than 200 KMs ,between Mangaluru and Chennai by more than 100 KMs.There is a natural passage between Kunjome and Vilangad and at Ambayathode like that of Walayar which would facilitate a smoother way through Western ghats. .The distance of this Line would be less than 130 KMs and the cost of laying would be less than Rs.800/ crores.
Once completed better passenger and cargo movements would bring in considerable returns on investment. The connectivity to the International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam,Kochi ; National Naval Academy at Ezhimala and New Mangalore Port with the rest of the country would get enhanced .This would make Mysore a major Railway Junction and would boost the City`s infrastructure .
Daily more than 10000 vehicles pass through NH 212,NH 67,SH 33 and through Hunsur-Virajpet-Iritty Road .All these roads crisscross the Wild Life sanctuaries(Bandipur,Muthumali,Nagarhole,Wayand, and Brahmagiri) through the core areas posing immense threat to precious Wild Life.If this proposal of Railwayline is taken up and implemented on a time bound manner a vexed problem could be solved easily without disturbing Wild Life and Environment .
Kindly go through the Google Map and other attachments. The photos of Man-Animal conflicts are from NH 212.

Vadakara is a recent development. MYS-TLY was decades old demand since British era. There was a tram line between Koottupuzha-V.peta/Makkuuttam earlier Britishers period.
Kerala govt is interested (or preference) in Nilambur route and not in MYS-TLY route. (Nothing will happen, only talks..)
If the MYS-Kushalnagar- Maidikeri line will be a reality, the chance is for TLY/CAN (Mattannur) line.
