I see 16518 starts from Kannur at 16:30 and reaches at 18:55 at MAQ and wait for 120 minutes to start from there. Why they start the train so early from CAN? It could start at 18:00 from CAN

I think the motive behind this timing is not operational difficulties, but to stop people boarding from CAN side.
It is better to board the weekly train from CAN and change to 16518/16524 at MAJN to save time instead of sleeping at MAQ.
16517/16523 was also waits at MYS for an hour. now reduced the halt at MYS.
There is a Mysore Dharwad leaving at 22:30 towards Krishnarajanagar. This wait might be to clear off the line.
North bound trains beyond MAJN will be crowded with very few GEN compartments. I dont think its practical to take two trains for a short distance like CAN-SBC
