What is the difference between a Loco Shed and a Trip Loco Shed?

Loco sheds are not tied specifically to any station and cater to the entire zone whereas Trip sheds are specific to the station. In many cases the loco shed will be quite a distance from the major station ( SBC and KJM diesel shed for example). Especially for stations with a lot of traffic like HWH, MAS etc, moving each and every locomotive to the nearest loco shed will be very time-consuming and also block the incoming traffic. Also, for any locomotive, major maintenance works are carried only by the home shed and not any other shed (an emergency might be an exception), so since only minor maintenance is performed at visiting locations ( like refilling of brake fluids, lubricants etc) and the turn around time is also quick ( few hours usually), having a trip shed attached to the station is better and will not create any additional burden on...
