indian railways 7174 blog postsAfter a long stay in ER, Ghaziabad WAP5 30040 left ER yesterday [April 15, 2016] with 12379 SDAH - ASR Jallianwala Bagh Express. Loco was probably resting in HWH ELS for the past few days.

Found this out on RCI, Good points but still comparison with WAM1 is not justified as both are electrically and mechanically different locos
Yes, they are different, electrically and mechanically.
But both are Bo-Bo with very similar adhesive weights. Even WAM1,2,3 had regenerative braking capability, however, they were too advanced at that time and couldn't become successful.
WAP5 locos are much more advanced compared to them, however, they belong to IR's Bo-Bo family as well. They're fairly successful.

The irony of the matter is that even if a WAP-5 + LHB Rake is provided to 12379/12380, still it will struggle between Mughalsarai and Kanpur/Old Delhi due to thrashing overtakes by Rajdhani and Duronto Trains (Freight and Local trains are an add-on)... ;-D

If the MPS is increased to 130 km/h and the schedule is altered, thrashings from Raj, Duronto etc can be easily prevented. :)
