AI ruined themselves. it wasn't the liberalization that ruined them, it was the nationalization (JRD Tata started it, by the way). carrying loads of incompetent and inefficient workforce and paying them salaries/sops was going to affect its bottom line.

India needs Indira Gandhi badly" : Indian government did it for decades at stretch, courtesy your dear Indira Gandhi and guess what, it almost our country to doorsteps of ruin. when you invest loads of money in loss making ventures you eventually fall in the debt trap and lead to a huge deficit, which is precisely what happened at the end of 80's
Not to mention Indira Gandhi heralded the era of open, full fledged sycophancy in all the three arms i.e. executive, legislative and judiciary, and ended up bring dynasty politics to forefront. its effects are what we are forced to see and bear even today.
