Railfan_bihari 5266 blog postsA small query..yesterday i saw this train skipping such a major town and junction bhopal at flat50 kmph and most of the trains arrive nishatpura in full speed and run at 40-50 kmph till the outer signal then start crawling but in bihar i ve noticed that trains when a scheduled halt approaches train start crawling at least from 5-10 km prior to that particular halt why is it so ?

Most Junctions sadly have a complex set of turnouts with very low speeds, forcing trains to decelerate to speeds as low as 10 Kmph or so from quite some distance. Stations like BPL, ET, NAD etc are outliers as they have speed restriction of 50 or even 100 (NAD).
Other reason might be loop line PF, which is a norm in India, here again negotiating turn outs forces trains to decelerate to very low speeds. only certain sections, like NK-BSL don't have loop line PF's
