Pune-Nashik Rd 265 kms is too long. Distance by road is about 185 kms only People will prefer road travel over rail. . New route appears to be circuitous. Survey needs to be done afresh and route should be shortened by resorting to tunnels or elevated tracks wherever required
there are quite a few Ghats on the alignment mentioned, hence probably the circuitous-ness of the route.
i haven't traveled on that side of the road, but i do know it isn't in a good condition and that traffic woes surround that road, so maybe if longer rail route leads to higher speed than at least traveling time will be reduced.
