Grievance Description : Subject:- Production/Allotment of WAP-5 locomotives. The WAP-5 loco was specially imported from ABB Swiss for the passenger traffic of IR. it variant WAP-7 was created which is more in use as it is suitable for Indian Railway tracks. WAP-5 typically is a high speed loco and best with small length trains like 12 coach gatimaan or 18 coach shatabdi. Only NR and WR homes WAP5 loco while other zones like ER CR SCR SER n SR, have mostly refused to run trains with WAP-5 loco due to gradients and ghats in South India Also, in ER, WAP-5 rarely visit despite the NDLS-MGS-HWH route being considerably flat and high speed. If this loco is useful only in WR n NR part of India and not in other parts of India. Why is such WAP5 loco still in production? If it has capabilities then why it is restricted to these two zones only? Against all this, I feel WAP-5 can manage with small load of 12 coach Shatabdi/Gatimaan in BSP-NGP-SC n MAS-SBC routes. Can the existing routes like BSL-NGP-BSP or NGP-SC-MAS-SBC be engineered for removal of gradients as far as possible to make it fit for WAP-5 locomotive?
Current Status : CASE CLOSED
Date of Action : 08 Jul 2016
Details : With the up-gradation of other routes for semi high speed train operation, sufficient no. of WAP5 locomotives will be allotted to concerned sheds/Railways in due course of time based on the availability of requisite infrastructure in sheds.

First of all, what is the most sensible thing to do? Homing WAP5 locos at KYN, which is 800 km away from the high speed corridor or AQ, which lies within the corridor? AQ would be preferable, right? I'm placing my bet on AQ only. KYN ain't getting any WAP7, forget about WAP5.
Don't compare the operations of one zone with another. CR need not copy the policies of NR or WR or any other zone for that matter.
P5 hauled 22109 at 110 MPS last year, not 120. Before that, only once,

30043 hauled 22109 at 130 km/h (due to Chinese delegates?).
IGP-BSL-ET is experiencing up-gradation. Good! How long will it take CR to complete the task?
Again ghat wala logic? *facepalms*
The reason for ED not being considered for the allocation of WAP7 locos, as others pointed out, is because it is already overloaded. ED homes 118 WAP4 locos. RPM is a shed which was developed in order to home 3-phase locomotives. Initially, RB allotted WAP4 locos to RPM as the production of WAP7 locos was still low. Two WAP7 locos were allotted and later withdrawn. Reason is lack of training. But since 2012, RPM has been receiving a good number of WAP7 locos.
BRC is an exception. Two reasons why BRC was chosen for homing WAP5 locos :-
1. IR was planning to introduce high speed trains between Delhi and Mumbai. Of course, trials are going on right now.
2. At the time of allocation, the production of WAP5 locos was increasing. So RB felt the need to home these locos at another loco shed.
KYN didn't carry out any major repair on WAP5. Only GZB and BRC can carry out major repairs and maintenance of these locos at present.
