No human beings's conscience can ever allow to sell a Delhi-Kolkata ACIII berth for 7185/- and ACII berth for 9,000/- to a person. But IR is doing so and is looting the helpless passengers, most of them have no viable alternative.
Only a small population of country is directly served by Air planes, most of them have to rely on trains despite very high fares, even much higher than air fare!!

That day may come sooner than later provided the traveler get alternatives to rail travel. Th ever improving road and air network is already doing the job since independence which may culminate in a decade or 2 , if the things continue to move in current direction.
Not sure if the railways is really focussing on improving its profitability or converting rail passengers to air travellers !!!
