I am travelling to Shivamogga next Saturday i.e.,23.092017 by train 16581 Yeshvantpur Shivamogga town express. This is my maiden journey in this newly introduced train. I am very curious to have a look at general coaches as they are Deen dayalu coaches. One thing I fail to understand is why this train is not getting good patronage. For journey on 23.09.2017 more than 100 berth is available. Where as in the other train i.e., Mysore Talaguppa it is RAC 101 for that day. Many Shivamogga bound passengers can travel in this train as berth will be confirmed and also this train reaches at 6 in the morning so that they can complete their sleep where as the other train reaches at 4.45 AM.

How was your travel? Did the train fill up? How was the rush in UR?
.
My guess why this doesn't fill up are:
1. The other train has halts at SBC, MWM in the heart of the city, so convenient for people to board. Now after extension to MYS, it has got KGI, NYH as halts too.
2.
...
Considering the other train starts at 11 pm it will be preferred for people to sleep, rather than 11:40 with this train. People go by train mainly for the convenience of sleeping rather than bus :) so sooner they are able to shut eye, the better. 11 pm to 5 am is pretty much the preferred hrs.
.
This train too used to start at SBC when inaugurated, but no place to park, so shifted to YPR. They should convert that HUP Pass as MEMU and send it to RMGM or WFD/BWT during day and free up one stabling line and park this train there.

Ur point of coversion of HUP Pass into MEMU and running it till RMGM is good.
Also we need pitlines at SMET, that would take care of Tri-weekly night train, SBC-SMET ICE and MYS-Talguppa exp(as it travels as Talguppa-SMET-Talguppa Pass) and reduce burden on MYS & YPR pitlines.

Forget pitlines. I was hoping that as elections approached, some good news will come for SMET. One the tri-weekly day train will be made daily. Other the tri-weekly night train will be made daily too.
Now no hopes because of BSY.
Since he was CM candidate, he had the political heft to get that night train in Jan. I thought, as elections approaches again he will make these 2 trains daily.
But

all hopes dashed, as last few days, the papers clearly say that he will contest from Badami in Bagalkot district in N.KA to get max seats. So I think he wont look out for SMET now.

My journey was very niece. I think all the reserved coaches were full since it is festival time. I didn't see the U/R coaches. I think they were also full. The sleeper coaches of this train are very old coaches, especially the S2 in which my berth was allotted. The Deen Dayalu coaches are very fine. Your assumption why this train is not getting filled up is to some extent true. But, now with the availability of metro service to YPR Rly Stn many people can shift over to this train when berth is still available rather than going for RAC/WL in the other train. I went to YPR railway station by metro from Banashankari and it reached exactly in half an hour's time and the journey was also very comfortable compared to city bus journey. The fare is also not too...

much (rs.42) whereas if you change two buses via majestic to reach YPR the fare will be almost same.
