Alternative ki jarurat agle 50-60 years tak nahi padegi. We hope to have certain improvement in 5 decades.
Hyperloop cost per km is way beyond economic feasibility
Could the Hyperloop replace airplanes?
It depends.
It...
more... could serve as replacement to some domestic flights but no it cannot fully replace airplanes.
To fully understand whether Hyperloop can replace aviation, you need to understand how they both work.
Hyperloop is unlike any means of transportation, even though people make it seem like improvement upon the bullet trains. Hyperloop is fancy name given to the tiny capsule that would travel incredibly faster through network of underground tunnels or tubes built above the land.
The concept and designs of hyperloop was proposed by Elon Musk, the billionaire and visionary owner of tesla motors. According to his report ‘Hyperloop Alpha’ it is a high-speed mode of transportation, which would substantially decrease the cost of long distance traveling (The ticket from SF to LA would cost $20) and replace aviation. So, the paper makes it seem like an easy and super fancy.
However, the paper also explained about the shortcomings of Hyperloop; how a single fault in the network might stop the whole system and cause massive havoc. Not to mention expensive, making undergrounds tunnels is not going to be expensive and maintaining Hyperloop will also be very difficult with current set of technologies we have. Imagine the effects of earthquakes or similar natural disaster on the network.
Even though Musk has already begun digging tunnels in SF and LA, it is still way behind development to be able to replace aviation.
Hyperloop propels using linear induction motors and air compressors, so it would be crazy loud for someone staying inside a windowless tube. If you think jet engines are noisy, you are wrong. Not to mention the unprecedented effects of such acceleration and deceleration on the location. Also, the current funding of hyperloop project is way too low than needed to move into developmental phase.
On the other hand, Aviation is a trillion-dollar industry with very solid background and new research going on every day. Even though it is expensive and not so safe, it is the safest means of transportation developed by humans; more people die in car accident than in plane crash. Also, there is always something new coming up on aviation industry. And, jet engine technology for some airplanes has improved a lot and can achieve supersonic speeds.
So, aviation industry is safe for at least another 50 years (if not more), and intercontinental flights will not be replaced by Hyperloops anytime soon. Who knows we might see next technological revolution like Hyperloop in Airplanes too.
