The railway line even existed before independence (Metre gauge). When MNNIT formed, it had main campus/institute and hostels both towards west side of railway tracks while east side was military cantonment jungle. Later girls and boys new hostel building etc made towards east side of track, after taking some land from cantonment area (defence permission). Boys and girls then started to pass through civil road earlier, crossing railway tracks, to transit between college and new hostels. But around 12-14 years back, MNNIT made its own underpass road starting inside main institute boundary in west and terminating in east side new hostels boundary so that students don't have to wait when level crossing gates get closed for...
