AFAIK 1964 is the year when North Bengal exp was renamed as Darjeeling mail, not the year of "inauguration" of Darjeeling mail. The year of introduction of Darjeeling mail should be year of introduction of North Bengal exp. North Bengal exp used to run well before 1964 also although i am not sure about the exact year of introduction
Except for some brief periods, the Punjab mail never went to Peshawar. It used to terminate at Lahore. The BB&CIR (Present day WR) had a Colaba(Bombay)-Peshawar mail. The passengers coming by the Punjab mail had to switch to the BB&CIR's Peshawar mail at Lahore. The same thing continued after the Frontier mail was introduced.
You are right. The North Bengal express was operational by 1951. I mentioned 1964, as that was the time the train was renamed.
