Thanks for this detailed information sir.. i heard the same.. i was confused only about Magadh Exp inauguration. Mujhe baar baar 1980 yaad aa raha tha. lekin Papa ke friend ye bhi bataye the ki 1982 tak VS alag hi thi.. so i was sure ki VS untill 1982 alag chalti thi. aapne sara confusion clear kar diya. _/\_
later BGP departure was switched to 13:40 jab Magadh me joda jane laga.. 18:30 par PNBE aur 19:10 par Magadh ke sath departure..

Thank you for your response. Magadh Express was definitely not introduced before 1984 because I traveled in Vikramshila Express in 1983 and it was twice a week train. Sonbhadra Express used to run between Patna and New Delhi and it was later extended to Bhagalpur once a week. In 1984, they just combined these two trains into one, made it daily and called it Magadh Express.
I think in 1977 there were two trains introduced from Bhagalpur, one for Delhi (Vikramshila Express) and another for Mumbai (Bombay Janta Express) to cater to passengers from Bhagalpur, Munger, Patna region. Patna did not have any trains originating to Delhi or Mumbai during this time. Only other Super Fast originating from Bihar was Jayanti...
