If there are empty seats in a higher class of accommodation ( say in AC Chair Car) , aren't passengers from lower classes supposed to be automatically upgraded to the higher class?
The wait listed travellers or full paid confirmed travellers are not being upgraded to upper class now. The reservation are made online and booking is allowed upto 30mins before the train dep and for a long distance train chart is prepared at multiple locations as the per timing of that charting station.
Is it like a temporary change or permanent? Also, any idea when Railways changed the rule? I thought the reservation slips(offline ones done at reservation counter) still had "Auto upgrade me to higher class if possible" option available.
