Normally a bay platform is a dead-end railway platform at a railway station that has through lines. It is normal for bay platforms to be shorter than the other platforms.
See the second pic, while enlarging you can see the MEMU is on a dead end line, which ends at the entrance of the station and it is half of the other platforms. Cannanore and Mangalore has these platforms which is opertaional in Malabar area. Calicut has a very small one which is not used as bay platform as it is very small to operate a train. Just used only for parking locos etc.
