India doesn't have any safety net like western countries. For instance, take the stimulus check of US or the furlough scheme in UK. Both of these cover atleast a part of expenses of people who were in non essential sector and lost their jobs, unlike India where we just leave people on their own.
Unfortunately, when we leave people on their own they don't tend to take decisions that are collectively better, like traveling back to village and spreading infections!!
