The current situation in the country is grim, however things aren't as bad as most people are making it out. Things are slowly and steadily looking up, strict lockdown enforcement has reduced the spread of the pandemic. However lockdown cannot be a solution in a country like India. Unlike first world countries where people unemployed due to lockdown enforcement are duly compensated, such is not the case in India. Lockdown is not the solution, prevention and due vaccinations are!
What we fail to realize is that the actual stats paint a completely different story, when compared to the fear and panic that is being spread by the Indian and International media.
India

still has one of the lowest deaths per population worldwide, and this is when deaths due to cardiac arrests and all other ailments are being attributed to Covid-19. To call the Indian media shameless and negligent would be an understatement so akin as to the specific gravity of a neutron star material. When programs pertaining to educating the masses should be broadcast on a mass level, all that is being propagated is fear and hysteria. People are gullible and easily fooled by the mass panic and fear mongering propagated in the media. I guess, seeing multiple burning pyres on the banks of the Ganga, at Varanasi and Kanpur makes for a great picture for selling the tragedy unfolding in India. USA and Brazil individually have double the deaths of India, France has half the number of Indian deaths, inspite of having 0.05 times the population of India. Have you seen pictures of mass burials at France and USA? Meanwhile we have a so called journalist, who is actually a pathetic excuse of an human being, dubbing Lucknow as Lashnow!
It so happens that even this site has been infected with this disease of creating hysteria. I just saw a post from a member who wants all trains to be shut down for a whole year! Indian railways is the lifeline of the nation, and the national transporter in chief. Given the fact that how irresponsibly some chief ministers behaved last year and continue to behave, we don't want the situation of yesteryear to repeat again. We don't want migrants forced to walking thousands of kilometres, to reach their homes, we don't want little girls having to ferry their sick fathers, for thousand kilometres under the scorching sun of Indian summer. No Trains, especially the long distance trains should continue running, shut down the intercities, but the long runners should continue to run!
Finally my point is , don't fall for the mass propaganda. Switch off your television sets and spend time with your family. With the necessary precautions we will soon come out with our heads held high. These racist 'gore langurs' cannot digest the fact that a brown skinned country that is supposed to be a third world country, is actually doing far better than them, inspite of having multiple disruptive elements flouting the prescibed protocols.
TAKE PREACUTIONS!
STAY SAFE!
THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

I humbly disagree with the post.
For starters, the death figures, especially in Gujarat and UP are being under reported to try and paint a better picture than currently is in order to save face

India has lower deaths per capita because our system is so god dammed freaking broken that we aren't able to capture many of the cases in the

first place, and this precisely is the problem. Even at the current death rate our system is unable to meet the load being put on system, just imagine what will happen when we start approaching western values!!! We simply don't have the capacity to deal with anything close to that.
Another thing is of course how irresponsible indian leadership is, especially at the top. With funds to spare a plenty for central Vista but no money to pay states their rightful GST dues until they have to literally beg in front of centre, states don't have money to do strict policing of containment zones to prevent spread, nor for them to work on contact tracing. With these two done you don't need lockdown, but when your own PM goes around saying 'didi o didi' in public rallies filled with mask less people standing shoulder to shoulder it shows how serious centre itself is about covid, apart from saving their own face internationally.
Unfortunately with such broken leadership andc an even more broken medical system where emphasis is more on setting up AIIMS inflection bound states rather than upgrading PHC across the country, your options of containing pandemic are very less with any other measures apart from lockdown.
MH, which didn't give in to pressure to not go for lockdown from our ex-CM roughly named as 'dim witted fat novice' has bought down growth rate from a high of 1.8-1.7% to 1.3% now, with its contribution in national share declining every day. In MH too we dilly dallied setting up curbs initially and the result is for everyone to see! In mumbai, one of the key factors that abetted in the spread of second wave was the opening of local trains for all and sundry, and the drop of cases with shutting down of trains is a good example of why we need to clamp down on public transport urgently.
Remember, livelihood involves life in it; without the latter you can't have former.
