I just encountered something very peculiar, want to know if anyone has experienced this.

I had to book 3 tickets on a train. The availability was AVAILABLE 001

I knew that if I
...

book it I'll get one random seat and the other two that'll confirm on charting may or may not be close to it.

So I thought I'll make this booking twice. Cancel the first one, (since it'll be partially confirmed I'll only pay clerkage will be be nominal. I'll take that as a price to pay for better chances of getting seats together).

And post cancellation, my second ticket will move to the status of my first but without seat assignment which will be allotted at charting and thus will have a higher chance of being together.

So I did it. First attempt. Got SUB/RAC1/RAC2

Second attempt: Got RAC3/RAC4/RAC5

Cancelled the first ticket and checked status of the second and that's where I noticed the bizzare bit

My second ticket didn't move to Confirmed/ RAC1/ RAC2.
It moved to RAC1/RAC2/RAC3.

The confirmed seat just vanished!!

PS - You are partially correct in your analysis.

These are the events that must have occurred in the chronological order:

1. OP booked the first ticket CNF(PQ)/ RAC 1(GN)/RAC 2(GN).

2. Some other person booked 1 berth under PQ with status PQWL 1.

3. OP booked the second ticket RAC 3(GN)/RAC 4(GN)/RAC 5(GN).

4. OP cancelled the first ticket.

5. The status of other person's ticket moves to CNF(PQ) as a PQ berth gets released at cancellation.

6. OP's second ticket's status moves to RAC 1(GN)/ RAC 2(GN)/RAC 3(GN).

PS: Isn't there a way to tag a specific monitor group in the public forum? How do we @ them?
